So, is Hulk Hogan natural or is he lying and taking steroids?

Based on the evidence Hulk Hogan could well have taken steroids. 

His gains timeline is typical of a steroid-user.

He’s very defensive in the video where he talks about steroids, saying you’re not a bad person if you take steroids and that they’re not bad for you.

He had his first pro match on August 19, 1977 against B. Brian Blair. In his early days, he also used other names such as Terry “The Hulk” Boulder and Sterling Golden.

He won his first heavyweight title in the Southeastern National Wrestling Alliance, recognized in Alabama and Tennessee.

The explanation for the name “Hulk Hogan” comes from the fact that many considered Bollea more muscular than Lou Ferrigno, who was the star of the series “The Incredible Hulk”. Vincent James McMahon wanted him to be a tough guy with an Irish background! An agreement was made with Marvel Comics to use the name “Hulk”. In 2005, Terry bought the name Hulk Hogan himself.

Hogan started out in the WWF as an arrogant heel wearing a golden cape, accompanied by “Classy” Freddie Blassie. He feuded extensively with WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation) champion Bob Backlund, Tony Atlas and a man he had met before and who will also be present later: a 7p4, 520-pound man, the great “Andre The Giant”.

On August 9, 1980, the pair wrestled in front of 36,295 fans at Shea Stadium in Flushing, New York. This match was part of the “Showdown at Shea” event.

Rocky III and the AWA

In 1981, Sylvester Stallone personally asked Hogan to star in his movie Rocky III, he had to ask his boss, Vincent J. McMahon, first. The latter refused, because unlike his son, he believed that wrestlers had no place in the cinema. Hogan agreed anyway, wishing the role would make him known even more. McMahon then fired him and Hogan disappeared for a few years.

Hogan then began wrestling in Minnesota, with the American Wrestling Association, owned by Verne Gagne. Hogan was a heel and had “Luscious” Johnny Valiant as his manager.

On the other hand, AWA fans loved Hogan… and the people writing the galas had no choice but to make him nice.

He quickly became the most popular wrestler in the AWA and fought champion Nick Bockwinkel, but Gagne, who placed more importance on talent in the ring than ability to manipulate the crowd, was not very open to give it the title.

On two separate occasions, Hogan was scheduled to win the title and saw the decision overturned with a controversial ending. Fans were often furious about this kind of ending. Hogan, on the other hand, has had enough of the politics around the title and frustrated with Verne who demanded a certain

New Japan

During this period of his life, Hogan’s success was in New Japan Pro Wresting, the Japanese adored the tall muscular American blonde, his nickname was Ichiban (number 1). Hogan made his first appearance in Japan on May 23, 1980.

He has toured the country occasionally later in his career, competing against wrestlers like Tatsumi Fujinami and Abdullah the Butcher.

While in Japan, his take repertoire was VERY different from what you usually see him do. He was more on the technical side, did traditional takes, unlike his brawling style. His finishing touch was the Ax Bomber, a devastating forearm blow …

On June 2, 1983, Hogan became the first winner of the International Wrestling Grand Prix tournament by defeating the Japanese Antonio Inoki, by KO, in a 10-man tournament featuring the best wrestlers in the world!

Hogan and Inoki have been partners in Japan, winning the prestigious MSG Tag League tournament two years in a row, in 1982 and 1983.

Hogan even recorded an album there so much he was loved.

Birth of Hulkamania

In 1983, Vince K. McMahon bought WWF from his father and his goal was to grow it into a nationally recognized federation, using Hogan’s charisma, body and name as the big name of the company! So Hogan returned to WWF on January 3, 1984, to save Bob Backlund from a 3-1.

Hulk Hogan enters a ring

3 weeks later, on January 23, Hogan won the WWF title, beating The Iron Sheik at Madison Square Garden. He thus became the first wrestler from the South to win the title! In his book, Hulk Hogan claims that Verne Gagne offered Sheik $ 100,000 to break Hogan’s leg during the fight!

This victory gave birth to one of the biggest movements known to date, Hulkamania. That’s when Hogan asks his fans to, “Train, Say Your Prayers and Eat your Vitamins.” A fourth request arose after his feud with Earthquake. Vitamins had been parodied to say “Steroids”, given the scandal over them in the 90s.

Hogan was the champion for 4 years and 13 days, winning against Andre The Giant, Paul Orndorff, Roddy Piper, King Kong Bundy and bringing in record profits for the company.

He was the co-host of “Saturday Night Live” on March 30, 1985 and even had his morning show on CBS called “Hulk Hogan’s Rock’n Wrestling”.

On March 31, 1985, the first WrestleMania took place at MSG, Hogan was in the Main Event with Mr.T. Hogan was at the top of the map in 7 of the first 8 WrestleMania between 1985 and 1992.

A new story started around Hogan in 1987, he received a trophy for being champion for 3 years. A good friend of his, Andre The Giant, received a slightly smaller trophy, for being undefeated (by fall) for FIFTEEN years! The Hulk then congratulated him but Andre left during Hogan’s speech! During the Piper’s Pit, Bobby Heenan confronted Hogan, telling him that Andre was his protégé. Andre therefore challenged Hogan to a match at WrestleMania III.

The event took place on March 29, 1987 at the Pontiac Silverdome, Pontiac, Michigan. An announced crowd of 93,173 (a false number) fans saw Hogan beat Andre. This match became Hogan’s most recognized match, where he performed a bodyslam on a 520 pound man! This match was seen as a way to pass the flame between the star of the 70s, Andre and that of the 80s, Hogan! Years later, Hogan would claim that Andre was so heavy he felt like he weighed 700 pounds.

Hogan very controversially lost the belt to Andre during Saturday Night’s Main Event (which was rated 15.2 !!!) on NBC on February 5, 1988, thanks to “Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase and evil referee Earl Hebner. After the fight, Andre gave the title to Ted Dibiase and the title then became vacant for the 3rd time in 25 years!

The following month, “Macho Man” Randy Savage won the title at WrestleMania IV! Together, Hogan, Randy Savage and Elizabeth formed the Mega Powers! This friendship died from within, through Savage’s jealousy of Hogan and his obsession that led him to believe that the Hulk and Elizabeth were living a story together. A feud with Macho Man broke out and it all ended at WrestleMania V, where Hogan won his second WWF title!

His second reign lasted a year, during which time he starred in his first movie No Holds Barred. The film inspired a feud between the Hulk and the character played by actor Tiny Liger Jr, Zeus. Zeus was a villain who was jealous of Hogan and wanted revenge. Hogan easily defeated Zeus in a series of fights during 1989, which started in a tag team match at SummerSlam 1989.

Hogan won the Royal Rumble 1990, eliminating Mr. Perfect.

He will lose the title to the current Intercontinental champion, The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VI. It was the first time in seven years that Hogan has lost by pinfall.

The pair were two of the favorite “good guys” that year, and their fight ended very well, as Hogan himself gave the Warrior the title by offering him a handshake.

Next, Hogan battled the big Earthquake, 468 pounds of fat. The man broke Hogan’s ribs in an attack on the ‘Brother Love Show’ in May 1990. On television, advertisers said that Hogan was very sad and unhappy with his injury and defeat at WM VI that he was. he was thinking of retirement! Fans were being asked to send him postcards asking him to come back to the arena. People received a photo autographed by Hogan in exchange for a letter.

Hogan returned to the ring in 1990 and dominated EarthQuake in a month-long feud around the country. These victories added the 4th request Hogan made to his fans: “Believe in Yourself!”

On March 24, 1991, Hogan asserted himself against the Iraqi sympathizer, Sgt. Slaughter, whom he defeated for his 3rd reign at WrestleMania VII.

Hogan lost the title on November 27, 1991, in the Survivor Series, to The Undertaker, in a match marked by the intervention of Ric Flair.

Six days later, Hogan became champion again at a special PPV called Tuesday in Texas. Given the controversy surrounding the two fights, the title was once again vacated.

During the 1992 Rumble, Hulk Hogan was eliminated by his friend Sid Justice and was unable to reclaim the title.

Within 5 months, Hogan announced that he was considering the possibility of his retirement and would step down after his match against Justice at WrestleMania 8 on April 5, 1992. The fight against Justice was not without controversy then. that Sid was able to free himself on the count of 3, after Hogan’s Leg Drop, when Papa Shango (who was supposed to do so) had not had time to surrender.

Hogan eventually won the bout by disqualification as Shango finally made it to the ring… Ultimate Warrior then arrived to save Hogan from a 2 on 1.

Hogan returned to the ring after nearly a year, as the Warrior was not the next Hogan as the WWF had hoped.

It was also in 1992 that Hogan made the movie Mr Nanny.

End of Hulkamania!

After this short break from the ring, he returned in January 1993 to help his friend Brutus Beefcake who was feuding with Money Inc.

At WrestleMania IX in April, he regained the WWF title for a 5th time, as Yokozuna challenged him to a match after defeating Bret Hart! At this point, all was well for Hogan and the Hulkamania seemed to be back! But that was not the case…

At the first King of The Ring, Hogan had to defend his title against Yokozuna. The plans were for Hogan to win over Yokozuna, only to lose to tournament winner (Bret Hart) in SummerSlam 1993. Hogan didn’t see Hart as a future champion… While the fight wasn’t going well for Hogan, the camera suddenly blinded him with a flash and Yokozuna was able to win the fight thanks to his own version of the Leg Drop! After his victory, Yokozuna decided to give him the Banzai Drop.

As Yokozuna celebrated his victory, Hogan was helped into the locker room by officials.

Hulkamania seemed to be extinguished… for good!

Hogan left WWF 2 months later after some fights against the big Yokozuna during Hulkamania’s European tour…

A steroid scandal hit WWF… and Vince made the decision to give the wins, belts and the like to smaller, more technical wrestlers like Bret The Hitman Hart. After leaving WWF, Hogan decided to focus on his roles in film and television.

WCW

In June 1994, Hogan was brought back to wrestling, by World Championship Wrestling, the direct competitor of WWF. When Hogan signed with WCW, officials (Eric Bischoff) hoped they could revive the glory days of Hulkamania, but they knew it wouldn’t be easy, as many longtime WCW fans aren’t convinced. what is Hogan really worth. Also, fans in the South are Anti WWF, so knowing that Hogan was the biggest name in this federation, that can complicate matters.

Hogan received complete control of his character on television! His official contract signing took place on August 13, at Disney World in Orlando, after a red and yellow parade. Hogan won the WCW heavyweight title in his first game, defeating Ric Flair on July 17. After feuds with Flair, Vader, and the Dungeon on Doom for the next 18 months, Hogan gave up the title and decided to appear only occasionally on WCW shows! WCW fans preferred talented young wrestlers like Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero and were fed up with the good Hogan in red and yellow.

This led Hogan to make changes to his character, to become villainous, the first time since 1981! He then returned to full-time on July 7, 1996, which is seen as one of the most memorable events in professional wrestling.

The birth of the nWo!

Scott Hall and Kevin Nash both left WWF in early 1996 to return to their former employer… WCW. They were nicknamed the “Outsiders” because he was not officially part of WCW in history. They intended to control WCW with the help of a third mystery partner (originally rumored Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels).

During .Bash at the Beach, Hall, Nash and their mystery partner had to face Sting, Randy Savage, and Lex Luger The 3rd Man didn’t make the fight start and after Luger left the fight because of an injury … many believed he would be the mystery partner! When Hogan came out, many believed he would replace Lex to attack Hall and Nash, but to everyone’s surprise, Hogan came in to do his now recognized thigh run on Savage and declared himself to be the Outsiders partner … The 3 men regrouped under the name New World Order.

Hogan’s heel turn, after being one of, if not the greatest, sports entertainment icons for 15 years, has come as a shock to the wrestling world! The following night on Nitro, Eric Bischoff reported that WCW and Hogan had received loads of complaints from parents since the PPV and that the children were destroying Hogan’s merchandise.

Then Hogan dyed his beard black and renamed himself Hollywood Hogan Hogan redefined the meaning of a bad character, not adopting the style of the bad man. Hollywood Hogan gave birth to a more realistic and intelligent villain without adopting any real gimmicks. Several noted that Hogan was the most valuable villain in the history of professional wrestling.

After defeating The Giant at Hog Wild on August 10, 1996, Hogan was the WCW heavyweight champion for most of 1997. During this time he will fight, Roddy Piper, Randy Savage, Lex Luger, Sting, Diamond Dallas Page and many others. The nWo continued to grow and quickly became the most popular concept in wrestling, helping WCW beat WWF in ratings for 83 straight weeks. Also, the nWo T-Shirt was the best-selling item of 1997.

At StarrCade, in the most anticipated fight in WCW history that took nearly 18 months to create, Sting manages to defeat Hulk Hogan. However, fans were disappointed with the “fight of the decade” because the length of the fight and the ending did not justify all the time WCW had taken to build this rivalry! The finale had to be rethought, as Hogan, with Creative Control in his contract, wanted to beat Sting, when the bookers had already decided Sting would win! To keep the plans and keep Hogan happy, we decided to make Hogan win by quick count and then restart the fight so that Sting won by submission! The finish took place during StarrCade and Nitro… to put the title vacant. After Hogan had spent 1998 playing games involving celebrities like Dennis Rodman and Jay Leno, he announced his retirement and also attempted to run for President of the United States in November. He then regained the title on the controversial angle dubbed the fingerpoke of doom. Hogan lost to Ric Flair in Uncensored 1999.

The end of Hogan in WCW

In July 1999, Hogan was slowly becoming a nice guy again. On August 9, he started the show dressed in black and white, but after a scene with his son, he stepped out dressed in his red and yellow clothes for his 3v3 fight. His injuries and frustrations were getting more serious and Hogan s ‘was away until February 2000. In his Hollywood book Hulk Hogan, Bollea wrote that Vince Russo had asked him to take a rest and was not told when he would be back. He accepted the request.

On October 24, 1999, during Halloween Havoc in Vegas, Hogan had to face Sting for the world title which he had lost at the Fall Brawl, a month before… On the other hand, Hogan appeared in the ring in street clothes (normal), s’ fell for the pin and left the ring. After his return in February 2000, Hogan will fight Lex Luger, Ric Flair and Billy Kidman.

During Bash at the Beach, Hogan was involved in a very controversial (real) incident with Vince Russo. He had to fight Jeff Jarrett for the title. Hogan wanted to win this fight because he believed Russo wouldn’t use him in any stories anymore. Hogan still had several months on his contract and was scheduled to appear at all PPVs. He used his clause in his contract which gave him control of the finals for each of his fights! According to Hogan, this is the only time he has used this clause! Russo was furious because he didn’t think Hogan had to be champion.

Russo therefore asked Jarrett to lie down in the center of the ring and asked Hogan to beat him on the spot. Hogan, confused, accepted and picked up the microphone and said to Russo, “This shit is what got the company in this state!” Russo responded by saying that he wanted to get rid of all the old ones in the company and that since Hogan didn’t want to job against Jarrett, a new heavyweight title was going to be created… which set up a fight between Jeff Jarrett. and Booker T for later in the evening. Hogan made no appearances and no one mentioned his name at WCW events after that evening. Hogan took legal action against Vince Russo… which ended off court. Russo later revealed that this incident was a work. However, WCW could no longer afford to pay Hogan for more PPV appearances, never recalled (which made room for the prosecution).

World Wrestling Federation: the Return

From July 2000 to November 2001, Hogan was very quiet and did not go out in public. He wondered if what Russo had said about him was true. Also, the Hulk’s father, Peter Bollea passed away in December 2001, which he took very badly. Many fans agreed with Russo, seeing that Hogan was slowing the progress of younger wrestlers. Hogan wanted to prove that he could still deliver the goods. In the months after WCW ended in March 2001, Hogan underwent knee surgery to help him wrestle again. For a test, Hogan worked for the XWF, a wrestling promotion supported by Jimmy Hart. Hogan will beat Curt Hennig in that match and felt well enough to accept the offer to return to WWF in February 2002 at No Way Out.

The Immortal vs The People’s Champ

Initially, Hogan made a comeback with the original members of the nWo, Hall and Nash. During WrestleMania XVIII, he took on The Rock. This was the only Wrestlemania fight where Hogan played the villain. However, the 68,237 Skydome fans were behind Hogan and turned him back to nice during the fight. The Rock won the fight but shook hands with Hogan in the end. Hall and Nash came to slap Hogan for his change of attitude and Rock came back to the ring to help Hogan.

His last big game

After the fight, Hogan was a good guy again, even though he continued to wear his black and white clothes for a few weeks. He beat Triple H in Backlash for a short one-month reign. During his reign, WWF changed its name to WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). This marked Hogan as the very last WWF Champion and the first WWE Heavyweight Champion! After an angle where Brock Lesnar crushed Hulk Hogan in August 2002, he disappeared from the airwaves. He performed a comeback in early 2003 to fight The Rock again. He also defeated Vince McMahon in Wrestlemania XIX. Hulk Hogan was back with the famous “Hulk Rules” logo, modified to “Hulk Still Rules”.

Mr. America and the withdrawal of the Hulk

Mr. America was another Hogan alter-ego. Mr. America was Hulk Hogan, in disguise. He used the theme “Real American” He was born because of the story that arose after WM XIX, who wanted Hogan to quit wrestling, forced by Vince McMahon who wanted to kill Hulkamania. On May 1, 2003, Mr. America debuted at the Piper’s Pit, where Vince appeared mentioning he was Hogan in disguise. Mr. America replied humorously, “I am not Hulk Hogan, brother! This feud continued through May with a match between Mr. America and Roddy Piper. Vince tried all he could to prove that Mr. America was Hogan but he failed all the time. Mr. America even went to lie detectors! Mr. America’s last appearance was on June 26, 2003 during Smackdown, where Big Show, Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas defeated Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle and Mr. America. When the show was over, Mr. America took off his mask to show that he really was Hogan. The following week, Hogan left WWE because of some frustrations with the creative team. On July 3, Vince showed the scene and “kicked Hogan out.” For the next several months, WWE referred to the Big Show as the one that retired Hogan to give him credibility. Ironically, Big Show was discovered by Hulk Hogan in 1995 and was pushed as a threat to Hogan’s reign in WCW. The character of Mr. America did not come under the noses of Marvel Comics claiming that he was a Captain America rip-off because he had a very similar costume, in addition wearing the hero’s star. This added to the issues over the rights to the name Hulk Hogan. WWE therefore edited all references to Hulk Hogan for Hollywood Hogan.

The Hall of Fame

Hogan was introduced into the Hall of Fame by Sylvester Stallone on April 2, 2005. The Hulkster was greeted with a very loud ovation. During his speech, Hogan was often interrupted by fans throwing a “One more match”. The next day, Hogan saved Eugene from Muhammed Hassan and Daivari. On May 1, 2005, Hogan teamed up with Shawn Michaels to beat Hassan and Daivari. On June 27, during RAW, Hogan was the mystery partner of John Cena and Shawn Michaels in a fight against Chris Jericho, Christian and Tyson Tomko and is now considered a part-time wrestler.

Icon versus legend

Hogan appeared on RAW on July 4 as a special guest at Carlito’s Cabana. After Carlito asked disrespectful questions of his daughter Brooke, the Hulk attacked Carlito. Kurt Angle then walked in and made more comments about Brooke which made dear Hogan even more angry! Hogan was being beaten in a 2-1 when Shawn Michaels came to help him. Later that night, the 2 men defeated Carlito and Angle and during the post-game celebration, [Shawn Michaels sent him his Sweet Chin Music finishing catch right in the jaw! The following week, during the Piper’s Pit, Shawn challenged Hogan to a 1v1 fight. Hogan accepted the fight, which took place at SummerSlam 2005. Neither Hogan nor Shawn lost a fight in this PPV. This is no longer true. Their fight was the main attraction of the evening, a fight called Icon vs. Legend. The fight was split between the two men, with 2 referees ending up on the ground and with Shawn using a chair. Even after Sweet Chin Music, Hogan got up and finished the fight with the Leg Drop. After the game Michaels gave him a handshake, saying he had to find out for himself. Michaels left the ring to let Hogan celebrate with the crowd.
